Race Day Three - Running commentary from Auckland
Here is our ongoing report - running commentary - from Auckland's Viaduct Basin on Race Day Three of the Louis Vuitton Trophy.
0810 - The first pair to race today is TEAMORIGIN against Emirates Team New Zealand. This has the promise of being a great match. ORIGIN helmsman Ben Ainslie spent the 32nd America's Cup training with ETNZ so he knows Kiwi skipper Dean Barker very well. And Barker just beat Ainslie 2-0 in the Auckland Match Race regatta last week. Both teams like sailing in breeze and that's what we have in the forecast today.
0800 - Look for solid breeze today - about where we left off yesterday - to start off with. That means this morning the wind will be W-SW at 12 to 15 knots early, with the wind increasing up to 25 knots by late afternoon. The forecast is for the wind to stay above the racing range for Friday, so the pressure will be on Principal Race Officer Peter Reggio to get racing completed today.
